What are the rental regulations in the City of Sarasota? Sec. II-304 of the Municipal Code of the City of Sarasota contains the ordinances regulating residential use in the City.
Failure to comply results in the following notice from the City: “It has come to our attention that your property is in non-compliance with City of Sarasota Zoning Code, Article 2 Sec. 304(b)(1), Residential Use Categories-Household Living Characteristics. In accordance with this section of the Zoning Code, Household Living is characterized by the residential occupancy of a dwelling unit by a family and tenancy is arranged for periods longer than one week. We request that you cease renting this property for periods of less than (7) full days, (7) full nights, and less than 168 hours and/or cease renting to more than four unrelated people. We also request that you modify your advertising to reflect rentals periods of (7) full days, (7) full nights, and longer than 168 hours. These actions must be taken within three (3) business days from receipt of this letter. If for any reason you are unable to comply with the given time frame, contact us immediately. Failure to comply within the specified time period is a violation of the Zoning Code and an Official Code Compliance Order will be issued, which may result in fines being imposed.”
